Groundhog or Great American Outdoor Show?

The Great American Outdoor Show opens on February 1st at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. This 9 day event is billed as the worlds largest consumer outdoor show and they pack nine halls full of hunting gear, fishing gear, archery gear, boats, RV’s and outfitters from around the globe. This year there will be almost 1,000 exhibitors attending the show. There are also seminars put on by celebrities and experts on topics concerning whitetails, wild game cooking, fishing, turkey hunting, and predator hunting. Experts such as Barry Wensel, Alan Probst, Dr. Grant Woods, and Jimmy Houston will all be on hand to share their knowledge and answer questions.

This show gives you the opportunity to inspect and even try out new products and talk to experts to answer questions about them. Interested in custom knives? Covered. What about custom made turkey, duck, or goose calls? Check, check, and check. I have never attended a show that has the variety of hunting calls, custom knives, tree stands, fishing accessories, and outfitters as this one. Interested in going to Alaska to hunt and fish? There are dozens of outfitters at this show to answer your questions about your trip. Shopping for a new tree stand? All the tree stand manufacturers will be there and you can shop and compare to your hearts content. This show brings together all the major outdoor equipment manufacturers under one roof plus a bunch you probably never heard of as well. And the other plus to this show is that these folks are ready to make a deal. They all have specials and you can definitely get into trouble with all of the gear available for purchase.

However, one of the things I like to do at the show is to head over to the large show arena to give my legs a break and watch the dock dogs do their thing. From big air to speed retrieve the dogs compete against each other for the top prize. This event is also a big hit with the kids who cheer on their favorite pup.

If you are looking for something to do this weekend that doesn’t include a groundhog, then taking a road trip to the Farm Show Complex is an option. I don’t know anyone who has been disappointed with this event. If interested, you can go here for more information and to get your tickets.
